Objective: My work as a content marketer/marketing associate at Pennee was to improve our overall brand marketing and shape Pennee’s marketing to primarily be content-centric.
Role
The role and the execution of day-to-day activities looked a little like this:
- Social Media Management: I handled the creation and distribution of content on Youtube, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook & LinkedIn between April 2022 - May 2023. I was responsible for creating content that aligned with our various target audiences on each platform.
- Content Creation: I created content that ranged from video, audio, written and image for the brand that was used to promote our various products and educate our audience. At my time with Pennee, our marketing was mostly content driven and that meant that I had to handle multiple facets (blog, social media and Youtube) to ensure we were creating extremely helpful content for small-medium sized businesses in Nigeria.
- Partnerships & Projects: I was responsible for adding and increasing the number of users by establishing symbiotic relationships with partners such as fashion academies, baking schools & business coaches. I was entrusted with taking the lead on this and crafted our proposal emails & briefs to prospective partners. I also handled & supported a number of projects, like:
- Business Growth Series - I ideated this and it was focused on hosting lives and webinars with seasoned entrepreneurs to share tips and hacks to growing in their various industries
- My First Sale - I was responsible for sourcing, engaging and speaking with business owners across a range of industries about their very first sale and how their business has grown from then till now.
- The Pennee Spotlight - I ideated and established this to help foster a sense of community by spotlighting one of our many businesses & community members once ever 2 weeks/month on our social media. This increased engagement as businesses stood a chance to be spotlighted if they won our bi-weekly business quizzes via Instagram story.
- Vendor Activation Meetups - I assisted the customer support team to help users activate a credit line at different physical locations by special vendor meetups.
- Podcast Host: As a content marketer with Pennee, I was responsible for scripting, choosing, approaching & liaising with guests to record a 13 episode season podcast for the company titled - People & Pennee. I ensured to provide range in the season that aligned with our target businesses by inviting and having conversations with seasoned entrepreneurs across industries such as Oluremi Martins of Natural Girl Wigs, Olagoke Balogun of SoFresh NG, LexAsh of LexAsh Photography, of Kunmi of 1964.brand and many more.
Results
- I doubled the number of followers on the Instagram account within a year of being promoted to the role of a marketing associate. (1k - 2.2k). For Tiktok, I grew the account from 0 followers - 45 followers within 3 months of working & creating for the handle. I also increased the Youtube Count to 340 from 10 subscribers with over 65,000 views across the channel by leveraging YouTube SEO & Shorts.
- Ideated and published multiple support resources such as a Quarterly review resource for businesses, a free returns policy template & a free messaging tool.
- I successfully secured 2 partnerships with a Baking Academy & Fashion Academy to create a pipeline where graduates of these courses could easily seek credit from Pennee to grow and expand their businesses.
- I garnered over 5k streams on the podcast with the podcast being in the top 10 of our listeners demographics.
